Boulder County Sheriff Joe Pelle said he doesn't want to overcome the will of voters by spending taxpayer money on a lawsuit. "The people in my county overwhelmingly supported this amendment," Pelle said. He added that while sheriffs swear to uphold the U.S. Constitution, county officers also constitute a subdivision of the state and must uphold the state constitution. Meanwhile, San Miguel County Sheriff Bill Masters told The Cannabist, "I don't get it." "I don't see anywhere in the U.S. Constitution where it requires a local, elected law enforcement official to enforce federal law," he said. "We don't enforce immigration law. We don't enforce Forest Service or EPA regulations. I don't see why this is such a conflict for these sheriffs." - --- MAP posted-by: Jay Bergstrom
