MARIJUANA TO KICK OFF COMMISSIONERS' AGENDA

The Pueblo Board of County Commissioners is set to take up a measure
attempting to limit the number of marijuana plants in home-based grows.

The proposed zoning measure was delayed Dec. 10. It proposed that the
number of medical marijuana plants grown by individual caregivers be
limited to 18 in a private home, 12 in an apartment or duplex and
that outdoor growing be limited to agricultural zones in the county.

A few people spoke out in opposition to the proposed changes. It's
possible that the commissioners will again delay a vote, since the
county is working with the legislature on a similar law for the entire state.

The proposal stems from concerns that caregivers are mostly
unlicensed under the state's medical marijuana laws. Caregivers are
designated by medical marijuana patients as people who grow the
patient's plants for them. Normally there's a limit of six plants per
patient, but there are instances where patients get expanded plant
counts or caregivers take on multiple clients, resulting in
home-based grows of dozens of plants.

If the commissioners delay a decision on the home-grow ordinance,
there still will be plenty of marijuana issues on Monday's agenda.

There is an application for a retail grow facility in Rye, a medical
marijuana center and grow house on the St. Charles Mesa that was
continued from last month, another medical marijuana-infused products
license to go with an existing store on the Mesa and a new retail
marijuana store in Pueblo West.

There also is a renewal for The Spot's medical center and grow license.

The commissioners are scheduled to start at 9 a.m., Monday at the
Pueblo County Courthouse, 211 W. 10th St.
