MARIJUANA FARMS ON 1,000 ROPANI OF LAND DESTROYED

With the initiative of police, marijuana farms have been destroyed at
different places of Udayapur.

A joint team of Nepal Police and Armed police force destroyed the hemp
grown at Thanagaun, Lekhagaun, Rupatar, Bahara, Limpatar, Tawashree
and Panchami VDCs of the district. The locals had been farming the
contraband commercially.

According to District Police Office, the police team destroyed
marijuana grown on 1,000 ropani land at the VDCs in the past one week.

The police team returned to office on Saturday after completing the
first phase of the work, said SP Tek Bahadur Gurung of DPO. He said
security personnel would start the second phase of the same work in
some days.

As many as 50 personnel from Nepal Police and Armed Police Force were
sent to destroy marijuana farmed at the VDCs. Inspectors from both the
police forces led the teams.

Meanwhile, former teacher Top Bahadur Malla Thakuri said marijuana
farming has not been stopped completely though police have been
destroying such farms every year. He added that the authorities must
provide an alternative means for income to stop people from
growing marijuana.

The local administration has started taking stern action after
marijuana farming increased in the district in the last three years.
