8 ADAMS RETAIL POT STORES TO SEE SPIKE IN TAXES NEXT YEAR

Eight retail marijuana businesses in Northglenn and a northern sliver
of Aurora will see their sales taxes jump next summer thanks to four
measures passed in November.

Adams County residents passed a ballot measure that allows the county
to collect an additional 3 percent sales tax on all retail stores. To
date, that includes only retail stores in Northglenn and four stores
in the Adams County portion of Aurora - anything north of Colfax
Avenue. The 3 percent county tax will go into effect July 1.

The county's ban on retail marijuana operations in unincorporated
parts of the county will expire Dec. 31. Businesses can apply through
the state Jan. 1 for retail pot operations in unincorporated areas.

Aurora and Northglenn also passed 2 percent citywide taxes on retail
marijuana. Those taxes will begin Jan. 1.

Right now, Northglenn retail marijuana consumers pay 18.75 percent in
total taxes - 8.75 for state, city, county, special district taxes
and 10 percent for the Colorado excise tax on retail marijuana sales.
With the approved 2 percent city tax and the approved 3 percent
county tax, Northglenn marijuana consumers will pay 23.75 percent on
retail marijuana and products in July.

In Aurora, people who buy marijuana at the four Adams County
locations pay 18.50 percent in sales taxes. That will go up to 23.50
percent next summer.
