LEGALIZED POT WOULD DEVASTATE NEVADA COUNTY ECONOMY

This letter is in response to policy analyst Robert Sharpe's letter
"Time for California to catch up with Colorado." We can all agree
that the local marijuana growing industry is big. How big? I would
estimate that nearly a billion dollars flows through Nevada County's
economy each year from local marijuana production.

If California were to legalize marijuana outright, thousands of local
growers would be effectively put out of business. Many of these
growers have disabling conditions that make it difficult or
impossible to work; legalization would put many of them out on the
street. Dozens of local businesses would suffer tremendously; some
would close their doors for good

The effect of legalization would be utterly devastating to our local economy.
