WHAT SCOTT WALKER AND MARIJUANA HAVE IN COMMON

Dear Editor: Republicans had a great election Nov. 4, but so did
marijuana legalization.

Florida's Amendment 2, which would have legalized medical cannabis,
drew 57.6 percent of the vote, a little short of the required 60
percent. Despite falling short, it still drew a half million more
votes than Florida Gov. Rick Scott.

Alaska's Measure 2, legalizing adult use of cannabis, won with 52.15
percent, just a shade less than Scott Walker's 52.29 percent in Wisconsin.

Oregon's Measure 91 passed easily with 55.31 percent of the vote and
in Washington, D.C., Initiative 71 sailed to victory with 64.6
percent. In the western Pacific, the U.S. territory of Guam passed
Proposal 14A, legalizing medical cannabis, with 56.4 percent.

Cannabis legalization is here to stay.

Rather than enacting more job-killing austerity measures trying to
fix the $1.8 billion budget shortfall facing Wisconsin, why not tax
and regulate cannabis and create new industries with jobs that pay
well above minimum wage? Aren't those the kind of jobs that Walker
says he wants to create?

Ending cannabis prohibition deserves a serious nonpartisan look.
