PUT AN END TO THE SUFFERING

Re: Vote No On Amendment 2, |Oct. 5, editorial

A few weeks after you print poignant stories about Floridians who have
been helped by using marijuana, you say vote no on Amendment 2? Way to
crush the hopes of relief for the terminally ill and those dealing
with severe pain and debilitating illnesses.

Your reasons seem so disingenuous. You don't think doctors are capable
of ethically and intelligently recommending marijuana, as they do with
any drug, for their patients? A morally corrupt or incompetent doctor
can exploit any medication, Oxycontin being a case in point.

The editorial says that the Legislature has refused to act on medical
marijuana, then adds, lamely, that 'on occasion, the Legislature has
demonstrated that it can tackle tough issues.' Well, while we wait for
that 'occasion,' people continue to suffer and die.
