DOESN'T MEET CRITERIA

Regarding 'Quality of life issue' (Your Views, Sept. 25): Weighing
letter writer Marilyn Signer's plea to vote 'for' marijuana to assuage
her pain against what I'm observing in other people and events makes
my 'no' vote certain. Besides the recent increased number of drug-or
alcohol-related deaths from driving the wrong way on interstates,
there's the image of the marijuana-impaired race car driver Kevin Ward
Jr. walking into the path of Tony Stewart. Add to that the video image
of a lawyer sacrificing his image to rant profanely for its
legalization, and there's no contest.

Am I willing to sacrifice my safety and that of my family and friends
on Florida's roads for Ms. Signer's or anyone else's pain? No. Am I
willing to see people lose common sense to determine what is moral and
beneficial? No. Do I want people who are in pain to have drugs that
alleviate that pain? Yes. But that must come about through an
amendment tightly written to avoid harm to anyone else if enacted.
This one does not meet that criteria.
