Oasis Clinic believed to be first of its kind in Calgary Graeme Mascuich has been using marijuana to treat symptoms associated with Asperger syndrome for years. But it's just recently that the 29-year-old was able to obtain his supply of the drug through legitimate means, thanks to a Calgary clinic believed be the first in the city to offer patient evaluations for the federal medicinal marijuana program. Oasis Clinic, located in the northeast community of Temple, has seemingly been offering access to the drug since at least late May, according to posts on associated social media accounts. But the clinic's lead physician, Dr. Eugene Mangerman, has not granted an interview to Metro despite repeated requests made over a period of months. On Thursday, Metro ventured to the clinic and was told by one staff member that a spokesperson would provide comment later in the day, but no response actually came by press time. A poster in the waiting room advertises "medical marijuana evaluations." "Nature's best and safest medicine," the poster reads. "Improving the quality of your life." Finding pot-friendly doctors in Alberta is nearly impossible, licensed users have told Metro in the past. Many of them trekked to B.C. or met with physicians in that province over Skype to get prescriptions and gain access to the federal program. According to its Facebook page, Oasis doesn't actually provide patients with marijuana but supplies them with a prescription and list of licensed producers. After two meetings with Oasis representatives, Mascuich said he was prescribed 90 grams of marijuana per month. He is expecting his supply from a company called Tilray, which claims to provide "exceptional cannabis products" on its website. "They were really awesome," Mascuich said of Oasis' physicians. "I was fairly at ease. They were very friendly, very helpful. They really care, they're really trying to do everything right and proper." - --- MAP posted-by: Matt
