HAZEL PARK, OAK PARK APPROVE POT PROPOSALS

Voters said yes to decriminalizing small amounts of marijuana in
Hazel Park and Oak Park today, according to unofficial election results.

The measure would allow the use, possession or transfer of less than
1 ounce of marijuana on private property not used by the public by a
person who is at least 21 years old.

It passed 62% to 38% with all precincts reporting in Hazel Park. The
unofficial win was more narrow in Oak Park with 53% to 47% passage
with all precincts reporting.

The unofficial wins continue the 100% success rate for similar
marijuana ballot proposals in other communities statewide. More than
a dozen communities will have a similar marijuana ballot proposal in
the November general election.

"We're very excited. This has been a long time in the making," said
Debra Young, spokeswoman for the campaigns to get the measures on
both ballots. "We've got 16 more cities to go in November."

The measures were two of the bigger local ballot proposals for
communities in metro Detroit.
