PRO-POT GROUP SUES B.C. FERRIES, CITY OF SURREY

The folks behind a push to put a marijuana-decriminalization
referendum to voters are suing B.C. Ferries and the City of Surrey
for denying canvassers an opportunity to sign up the public during
their recent unsuccessful referendum campaign.

SensibleBC lawyer Kirk Tousaw said civic and ferry officials harassed
canvassers. He said preventing canvassers from operating denies them
their Charter rights to political expression.

SensibleBC director Dana Larsen said ferries officials threatened
canvassers and called police. "Happily, police declined to make any
arrests, but they should not have been called in the first place."
