GROUP FILES PETITION TO OVERTURN PHOENIX DISPENSARY BAN

PHOENIX -- A group of medical marijuana patients filed an initiative
petition Wednesday afternoon seeking to overturn the city of
Phoenix's moratorium on pot dispensaries.

The Phoenix City Recorder's office received initial information
Wednesday about the initiative, but signatures can't be collected
until it has been reviewed over the next week.

The chief petitioners for the initiative are Marina Ashrow-Richard
and Charles Goddard III, both Phoenix voters and Oregon Medical
Marijuana Program cardholders.

Phoenix City Council adopted Ordinances 945 and 946 establishing a
temporary moratorium on the operation of a medical marijuana
dispensary in the city. Absent state legislative action, under state
law these moratoriums are required to end by May 1, 2015.

The Greenery in Phoenix stopped dispensing marijuana after the
Jackson County Circuit Court ordered an injunction.

"We're not giving up," said Adams, who is a resident of Talent.

She said she completely supports the initiative, but she said The
Greenery also is exploring other legal avenues that might allow it to
dispense marijuana again.
