THERE ARE BIGGER THINGS THAN POT TO WORRY ABOUT

There is something terribly wrong in America, something eating away at
our national values and threatening our families. It is not the
neighbor who smokes marijuana.

The Republic's editorial Saturday on Colorado's marijuana laws
shamefully tries to compare "the devastation of the drug war against
the tides of sick people who would abuse their freedom to toke
recklessly and guilt-free" ("Legalize marijuana? First, watch Colo.").

The "war on drugs" is a national disgrace, doing nothing to curb drug
abuse, while costing billions of dollars, countless lives, and
destroying families, making felons out of our mothers, fathers and
children.

Equating this to watching cartoons after eating an extra pot brownie
is shameful.

Shall we also outlaw nutmeg or acetaminophen, as consuming too much
can get you high, or actually kill you?

When you are ready to send your high-school graduate to prison for
five years for a poorly informed night of binge drinking, I'll listen
to the drivel about the need for marijuana criminalization.
