THOMSON SETS HIGH BAR, SAYS WON'T SMOKE CRACK

Only in Toronto. Mayoral candidate Sarah Thomson pledged Thursday not
to smoke crack if elected but supported the legalization of marijuana.

"My administration will lead by example,"Thomson stated. "I will not
smoke crack cocaine while in office, at home, or during my personal life.

"I have young children and know that my behaviour will have a direct
impact on them and their lives. As a mother, I could never set such a
destructive example for my children. As the mayor I would never set
such a horrible example for my city."

But Thomson is OK with pot.

In her statement, Thomson did promise to support the legalization of
marijuana arguing it would be a "net positive for public health,
public safety and public budgets."

"The legalization and regulation of marijuana will make it less
accessible to kids and teenagers. By regulating it like tobacco and
alcohol, we are protecting youth," Thomson stated.

She went on to argue the move could help Toronto Police focus on
other drug crime and gangs.

"My administration will encourage our police to concentrate on ways
to limit gang violence and trafficking of crack cocaine," Thomson stated.
