PHILLY PRO-POT ACTIVIST SENTENCED

A leading Philadelphia pro-marijuana activist was given two years'
probation Wednesday in connection with a citation issued at an
Independence Mall rally last summer.

Chris Goldstein was also handed down a $35 special assessment and a
$3,000 fine, which must be paid within 30 days.

Goldstein was an organizer of Philadelphia's monthly "Smoke Down
Prohibition" protests, which were staged at Independence Mall for
about a year, starting in December 2012.

He was cited for controlled substance possession last August and
convicted in federal court in January.

As a part of his probation, Goldstein is prohibited from being within
100 feet of Independence National Historical Park "in connection with
any meeting, event, group, gathering or demonstration of which the
purpose is to advocate or commit a criminal act," sentencing documents
state.

He's also required to submit to periodic drug tests and to stay within
the judicial district unless given permission of the court or a
probation officer.
