Within a couple of days, four suspects were arrested in connection with Hoffman's death, and legal commentator Nancy Grace was having a field day trying them on national television. Had "John Q. Addict" overdosed, rather than an award-winning Hollywood actor, would those four individuals have been criminally charged? I don't think so.
