GUN REGULATIONS

While I am in favor of as many new regulations as possible to restrict
who can own guns and where they can bring them, the proposal to
restrict the rights of medical marijuana users from owning firearms
makes no sense, as the Tribune's Eric Zorn states in his Jan. 24
column. It only muddies the waters and gives the gun lobby more
ammunition (no pun intended) to whine that it is being persecuted.

There must be laws that deny the right to carry a gun while marijuana
is in a person's system, similar to the laws that restrict driving
based on blood alcohol level. But if a hunter needs medical treatment,
he should not be deprived of his rifle.
