GEORGE WILL A LIBERAL?

The other day I read George Will's "Sledgehammer Justice." I always
thought he was a conservative, but after reading this piece, he has
me confused (which, I admit, is not hard to do.) Is he a real
conservative, or is he just another bleeding-heart liberal?

The subject he wrote about was prison sentences dealt to drug
pushers. I could be wrong, but it seemed to me he thought life in
prison -- or even 10-20 years -- in prison for pushing illegal drugs
was too harsh. Hmmm.

Folks, how many times do we read about someone found dead in some
dingy hotel room, or in a plush apartment, from an overdose, or from
injections of pure heroin? How many of our great entertainers, Elvis
Presley, Whitney Houston, Janis Joplin, or sports figures like Sonny
Liston, or writers like Truman Capote, have died from drug overdoses?
How many more will die at the hands of these drug pushers? How many
lesser-known people have died from the overdose of illegal drugs?

Life in prison -- or 10 to 20 years -- for murdering people?

Give me a break, George. They deserve the death penalty, just like
any other murderer. Nothing less.
