LEGALIZATION OF POT WOULD LESSEN DANGERS

To the editor:

Re: Actor's death a wake up call for pro pot politicians, Aug. 9, 2013 edition.

I have never smoked weed before. I read the letter to the editor that
K.N. Greenan wrote and was appalled by the ignorance.

Marijuana can be a gateway drug, I suppose, if you want it to be.
Saying marijuana is a gateway drug to "harder drugs" is like saying
the anti-depressants I take daily are a gateway drug. The only
difference between the two substances is that anti-depressants are
addictive. My body is addicted to them.

Marijuana was not in actor Cory Monteith's system when he died.
Alcohol, however, was. Yes, his parents must be devastated because of
his death. I would be if Cory were my child.

Legalizing pot would make it taxed, more expensive, age-restricted
and safe for everyone to use. There's always the chance that someone
would put something else in the marijuana. That fear is there. It's real.

If you are going to write a letter, please inform yourself. God help us.
