ENCOURAGING AVIATORS TO SPOT THE POT

Crime Stoppers is continuing its quest to help combat against illegal
drug crops and is reminding local pilots they can help too.

Operation Pot Spot was launched provincially in the mid 1990s. The
program appeals to aviation enthusiasts and encourages them to be
observant for suspicious things such as illegal marijuana crops while
they are flying over rural areas.

Pilots can record GPS coordinates of any suspicious areas and forward
them anonymously to Crime Stoppers or them can call the police.

From the sky, marijuana crops are bright green and sometimes appear in
clusters. Often the surrounding area has been trampled. Marijuana is
often grown among legitimate crops such as corn.

Plants can also be found near creeks or swamps, in fields, along fence
lines and in woodlots.

Individuals should never approach a suspected marijuana crop in person
because it could be dangerous.

Instead, call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS) or visit
