NOT-POT CEO WALKS

Charges against a Toronto man who runs a company that sells a
controversial chemical alternative to marijuana have been tossed out of court.

The Public Prosecution Service of Canada confirmed on Tuesday that
the case against Adam Wookey, 28, for two counts of trafficking
synthetic cannabis were stayed in the Ontario Court of Justice last week.

No reasons were given by the prosecution office why the case against
the CEO of The Izms.

He was charged in March after Health Canada reported that ingredients
in Izms - which include the chemical JWH-018, reportedly linked to
suicide and psychosis - are subject to the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act.

A Health Canada spokesperson referred questions about the case to the
Public Prosecution Service of Canada.

Wookey's lawyer did not return requests for comment.

Hamilton Police looked into Wookey's activities shortly after a
January robbery of a downtown Love Shop, when the thief demanded all
the store's Izms.

Wookey was arrested without incident in March after the Hamilton
police vice and drug unit searched Toronto addresses on Hazelton Ave.
and Davenport Rd.

At the time of his arrest, Hamilton police said sales of the fake
weed had proliferated across the province.

Hamilton police had no comment on Tuesday.
