DRUG BUSTS KILL THE BUZZ FOR FIELD DAY FESTIVAL GOERS

A RIDE home in a police car was probably not what more than 150 New
South Wales revellers had in mind when they flocked to a dance
festival plugged as an event that "makes life wonderful".

Major drug busts killed the buzz for 153 Field Day festival goers who
were found with a mixture of cannabis, amphetamines, cocaine, ecstasy,
LSD and "ice".

Another 68 were turfed from the Domain where 14,000 people had turned
out to see the line-up of popular bands and DJs on New Year's Day.

Major arrests included a 24-year-old Cromer man and 30-year-old Bosley
man who were both accused of supplying pills to the crowd.

In total, 42 more people were arrested than last year's
festival.

Redfern squad Commander, Chief Inspector Stuart Bell, said the
operation would be one of many this year aimed at stamping out the
culture of recreational drug use at music festivals.

"Most festival-goers knew how to have fun and still behave
responsibly, but there are still a few who need to understand that
they will not get past us if they have drugs on them" Chief Inspector
Bell said.

"We will not take our eye off the ball when it comes to our fight
against drugs, alcohol-related crime and anti-social behaviour,
particularly at music festivals."
