PUBLIC TO VOTE ON ECSTASY VIDEOS

The people of Richmond are being asked to judge videos created by
local students about the harsh reality of ecstasy use and abuse.

As part of an awareness program run in the district's schools by
Richmond Addictions Services, the X-Press Youth Video Contest was
launched, where students Grades 8 to 12 created videos to raise
awareness about the consequences ecstasy use can have on individuals,
families and the community.

Addiction specialists presented 23 information sessions to students
in Richmond secondary schools, community centres and local service providers.

To date, more than 500 students have been educated on the potential
dangers of ecstasy, in a context that also deals with health and
wellness associated with drug and alcohol use.

After these sessions, students were invited to join the contest,
presented by the Richmond Addictions Services, Richmond Youth Media
Program and Richmond RCMP.

The top three winning entries will get prizes, including $500 for the
top video. Contest winners will be announced at the X-Press Youth Red
Carpet Viewing Party on Friday, Nov. 23 at Richmond City Hall at 6 p.m.
