EDITOR'S STANCE ON MARIJUANA IS WRONG

To the editor:

Re: Marijuana busts spark online discussions, (column)
www.northumberlandnews.com.

Crystal Crimi's thoughtful editorial about marijuana ends with her
conclusion that making it legal "is not the answer."

Regardless of what anybody thinks of marijuana use, the fact is that
around half of all adults in our society have at least tried it, and
most of them don't think of it as a very serious problem.

The true serious problem is a law that is not consistently enforced,
that so many people do not take seriously. When people pick and
choose which laws they will obey, we have a problem much more harmful
than marijuana.

We are smarter than this. Let's get rid of this unfortunate
situation. We will never be able to eradicate marijuana use. Let's
control the sale of cannabis in its numerous forms. Let's take the
profits of its sale away from criminals. Let's tax it and keep it
away from children.

I think Crystal is absolutely wrong.
