SAY YES TO LIBERTY

Implicit in positions taken by Kevin Sabet ("Say no to lax, legal
nightmare," Oct. 13) and Peter Hayashi ("Vote to aid sick, dying
patients," Oct. 13) over whether ill people may use "medical
marijuana" and the adequacy of restrictions to prevent it from
entering an existing and thriving black market is acceptance of the
"nanny state." Cultivation and commerce in cannabis does not pose a threat.

Instead of debating whether Question 3 is sufficiently restrictive,
we should be debating ending the federal prohibition on marijuana
altogether so that states may regulate the plant as they choose.
