Stop Work Order Issued

SUSPECTED POT SHOP CONSTRUCTION CONTINUES

Construction work on a suspected marijuana dispensary continued early
Thursday afternoon at the Stoney Creek shopping Center in Highland.

Men were seen working inside and going in and out, carrying materials
into the former Dominos Pizza at the south end of the complex.

However, by 3 p.m, there was no sign of anyone there and a stop work
order was posted on the door, dated July 26.

Operators of neighboring shops had complained about the unauthorized
construction, saying those at the new shop had bragged about the "new
weed shop" adding that some people have stopped in at neighboring
shops looking for the place to buy marijuana.

Work on the shop was going on Monday and Tuesday despite a visit from
Code Enforcement advising them that they needed a permit before work
is started on any business.

In addition, the City Council has issued a blanket moratorium on
marijuana dispensaries.

At least two other marijuana shops have attempted to operate without
proper business permits from the city, but have been closed down,
according to Community Development Director John Jaquess.
