MENDOCINO COUNTY PROSECUTOR RESIGNS AMID POT INVESTIGATION

A Mendocino County Deputy District Attorney under investigation for
alleged marijuana cultivation has resigned.

Sergio Fuentes, 33, of Ukiah, had been on paid administrative leave
since late April when law enforcement officers raided the home he
shares with his mother, according to the District Attorney's Office.

He's the second Mendocino County staff attorney to resign this week
over marijuana accusations. The former acting county counsel, Doug
Losak, resigned Monday following a citation for allegedly possessing
3 grams of marijuana, enough for two pot cigarettes.

Sheriff's officials said 150 marijuana plants were growing inside
Fuentes' home.

The investigation of the Fuentes case is ongoing. Because Fuentes
worked for the District Attorney, it is being submitted to the state
Attorney General's Office for review and possible prosecution, said
District Attorney spokesman Mike Geniella.

Fuentes is a Ukiah High School graduate who became licensed to
practice law in 2009 while working as a District Attorney's Office
victims' rights advocate.
