LEGAL POT GROWERS SAY THEY FEAR BEING OUTED

Scores of Calgary legal marijuana growers have tossed their plants in
the trash amid fears of having their addresses revealed publicly,
claim members of the local cannabis-using community.

This comes after the city made a request in February to Health Canada
to provide the locations of all approved growing operations amid fears
that most were not meeting safety requirements.

"A lot people thought the sky was falling, a lot of people were
afraid," said Keith Fagin with Calgary 420 Cannabis Community, who
says he's been flooded with calls from former growers now looking for
other marijuana providers.

But Wayne Brown with the city's Co-ordinated Safety Response Team said
Monday his team never planned to release the addresses publicly.

"We were simply attempting to start a dialogue with the federal
government," he said.

Fagin, who used to grow marijuana himself, said the city's intent was
always clear to him, but scolded them for pursuing the matter in the
first place.

"The city's just blowing smoke . . . they don't realize they have
caused a lot of pain for some people," he said.
