MEDICAL MARIJUANA HEARING TODAY IN SUTTER COUNTY

The Sutter County Board of Supervisors today is having the first
hearing on a proposed medical marijuana cultivation ordinance.

The ordinance, based on one in Tehama County, would stipulate under
what conditions legal medical marijuana users could grow the plant
without it being defined as a public nuisance.

Similar ordinances have come under heavy criticism from growers in
Yuba City and Yuba County, but officials have said the ordinances
were crafted in response to complaints from other residents about
smell and possible criminal activity.

The board will hear the proposed ordinance, which must be heard at
least one more time before adoption, as part of its regular meeting
at 3 p.m., Hall of Records building, 466 Second St., Yuba City.
