POLL SUGGESTS ALMOST HALF OF N.L. SUPPORTS LEGALIZING MARIJUANA

Nearly half of Newfoundland and Labrador residents support the
legalization of marijuana, according to a new survey from Corporate
Research Associates (CRA), while a quarter of the population supports
the legalization of brothels.

The latest polls, released June 14, show that men, younger residents,
and those in the highest income bracket support the legalization of marijuana.

The CRA poll shows 47 per cent support, with 44 per cent opposing
legalization, and nine per cent being undecided.

Those numbers are similar to Atlantic Canada totals, with this
province showing the second highest support for legalization after Nova Scotia.

While the marijuana issue is relatively evenly split, the
legalization of brothels is opposed by 52 per cent of Newfoundland
and Labrador, with 24 per cent supporting and another 24 per cent undecided.

Nova Scotia had the highest support for legalizing brothels, with 34
per cent approval, while Prince Edward Island had the highest
opposition, at 59 per cent against.

The CRA poll results are based on a sample of 1,518 adult Atlantic
Canadians, conducted from May 10 to June 4, with overall results
accurate to within +/- 2.5 percentage points, 95 out of 100 times.
