Marijuana is planted in May and June, with growers heading out to rural areas in search of property suitable for the illegal crop, warns the Orillia OPP in a media release. Swamps, cornfields and wooded areas, especially near a river or stream, are common locations. The growers may even rent a rural property with acreage, say the OPP. The growers return to maintain the plants about every two weeks until they are ready for harvesting in the fall. Often these locations have booby traps set and there is a risk of serious injury, the OPP said in a press release. If you suspect marijuana plants may be growing in an area, call Det.-Const. Brian Anderson of the drug enforcement unit at 705-238-8537 or call 1-888-310-1122. Please be sure to include details of the location. - --- MAP posted-by: Jo-D
