Anyhow, the point that everyone seems to miss amidst all the debates of gangs, profits, individual rights, etc. is that there are significant negative ramifications to those around the people who feels they have a right to enjoy a joint. I am responsible for a number of rental units and I have never had a complaint from a tenant with regard to another tenant enjoying a cocktail in the privacy of their own home. However, I have had numerous complaints in addition to a tenant vacating their suite due to one person smoking pot in another suite. What the pot smokers and proponents seem to forget is the extremely pungent and obnoxious odour of pot smoke that seems to permeate all areas of a building. It is not possible to contain the stench of pot smoke and it is extremely unfair to non-pot smokers who live in the vicinity. I can't believe we are essentially banning cigarettes in all public areas, yet are willing to open an enormous can of worms by considering the legalization of pot. Secondly, after years of trying to put a lid on impaired drivers due to alcohol, are we now willing to share our public roads with thousands of additional stoned drivers for the sake of some additional tax revenues? Come on government, isn't legalized gambling enough? Are you so desperate for money that you are now looking at drugs and prostitution for that extra hit of revenue?
