POT STORY SENDS WRONG MESSAGE TO VALLEY YOUTH

Re: "Pot users not just blowing smoke on Friday's 4/20," (Alberni
Valley Times, April 23)

Your decision to print an article that promotes illegal and unhealthy
activity for young people clearly shows to me that the Alberni Valley
Times has to re-assess its priorities.

I do not believe that children need the influence of the Times on the
issue of smoking marijuana. Whatever side of the marijuana question
you are on-smoking any substance is still unhealthy.

Instead of the story promoting unhealthy activity for young people,
why did you not lead the front page with the article you hid on page
10 about the young student from Port Alberni who represented Canada on
the U-17 international rugby team?

In my opinion, the sports story would have sent a more appropriate and
positive message for young people if it had been on the front page of
your newspaper.

A front page story with positive influence for young people in Port
Alberni - what a concept.
