OUR PM COULD LEARN A LESSON FROM BARBARA KAY

Re: Victims Of The Drug War, Jodie Emery, April 19. I do not smoke
anything and I do not use drugs, and I have stopped consuming
alcohol. However, I agree with Jodie Emery that prohibiting the use
of drugs of any kind does not reduce the number who continue to use.
Prohibitions increases usage, because the pushers induce people to
try them and many are then hooked. A previous story in this paper
compared the proportion of Canadian youth who have tried marijuana
with the youth in the Netherlands. Twice as many Canadians had tried
the drug compared to young people in the Netherlands, where it is legal.
