TACKLING MEDICAL POT ISSUE

The voters approved Proposition 215, giving Californians the right to
medicinal marijuana. I think that this was a compassionate decision
for cancer patients and others who are seriously ill.

The state has not done a very good job of regulating the new law;
they've left it up to each county to deal with. The real problem lies
with doctors being unregulated on the prescriptions they write and
pushing the envelope past what the vote was intended for.

Yuba County supervisors do not have a choice - it is the law. They
are doing the best that they can to draft a plan that stays within
the law, yet deals with the offensive odors and other issues for the
neighbors. It would be good if the state would come out with some
sensible guidelines for the counties to follow. But until they do, I
am grateful for the supervisors working with both sides of the issue
to find a solution that we can all live with.
