STOSSEL MISINFORMED ON 'DRUG WAR'

Syndicated columnist John Stossel's March 1 commentary, headlined
"Drug war has been dismal failure," was itself a "dismal failure."

First, the United States of America was never involved in a "drug
war." The drug war to which liberal journalists like to refer was
between drug criminals intent on corrupting American social standards
through illegal drug sales and, thus, vying for power and territory.
My case in point is what is occurring in Mexico at this very moment
between criminal drug gangs.

As to the "SWAT raids" referred to by Stossel and his assertion that
"people die in these raids," I'd like to ask him a question: If it
were not for drug enforcement, the criminals who peddle this poison
on the streets and schoolyards would have an open invitation to
control every facet of our society. Just who would stop them and
their evil intent to control the world? This is what these criminals
want; selling drugs is only a means to an end. These drug dons want
to control the United States and, ultimately, the world.

As to Stossel's praise for Portugal, legislation there to legalize
drugs has, in fact, been a "dismal failure." The officials to whom
Stossel spoke were spouting government political advertisement to a
gullible American newspaperman. I know this because I was the chief
U.S. drug enforcement administrator to the Portuguese government.

Stossel's column was a slap in the face to all the brave men and
women combating this evil menace on a daily basis. They risk their
lives daily so you and your family can sleep better and safer at
night. Sweet dreams.
