SPEEDING RENTAL CAR IN WYOMING LEADS HIGHWAY PATROL TO MAJOR POT HAUL

A speeding Chevrolet Impala was carrying two passengers, 115 pounds of
high-grade marijuana and $3,000 in cash Sunday night when it was
stopped near the Utah-Wyoming border.

Driver Shaval Green, 35, of Margate, Fla., and his passenger, 24
year-old Willie Lofton of Lithonia, Ga., are being held in the Uinta
County Jail in Evanston, Wyo., on felony charges of possession of a
controlled substance in plant form, possession of a controlled
substance with the intent to deliver,. and conspiracy to deliver
controlled substance.

The marijuana had an estimated street value of nearly $700,000,
authorities said.

A Wyoming Highway Patrol officer pulled over the pair at about 10 p.m.
Sunday east of Evanston. When the two men seemed nervous, the
patrolman asked for drug-sniffing dog, which found the cache of
marijuana in five packages inside the rental car, according to the
Wyoming Highway Patrol.

The bust was the second major arrest for state patrolmen along the
stretch of Interstate 80. On Feb. 14, authorities seized 242 pounds of
marijuana from a truck that was also hauling cars.

The truck driver, Hazem Izzat, 50, of New York City was initially
pulled over for an improper lane change. His required trucking log
books were not in order, which prompted patrol officers to inspect his
cargo, which led to the discovery of duffel bags containing marijuana
in two of the vehicles he was hauling, according to the Wyoming
Highway Patrol.
