INSITE'S NEED FOR MORE CAPACITY REFLECTS ADDICTS' GROWING TRUST

That the safe-injection site, Insite, needs more capacity is hardly a
sign of failure.

Rather, it is a sign of the growing trust addicts are placing in
Insite. This is a good thing. In fact, amid a climate of drug
prohibition and zero-tolerance mindsets that is no minor
accomplishment, in and of itself. Insite saves lives!

Clearly, letter writer Jan van Vugt has no appreciation of harm
reduction, its intent and accomplishments or the counter
productiveness of drug prohibition in relation to public-health and
safety concerns. Then again, perhaps van Vugt would rather have
addicts overdosing in the streets and alleys or indiscriminately
passing on communicable disease.
