WHY ARE THE FEDS PHASING OUT SNIFFER DOGS AT BORDER SERVICES?

Re: Border workers doggone upset over K9 unit's phase-out plan, Sept. 29

At a cost of about $500 per month per dog, the use of drug-sniffing
dogs is the most cost-effective means of detecting illegal shipments
at border points, specifically at docks and at airports. To cut back
on the use of dogs is obviously not a means of saving money. The
federal government's plan to remove dogs from border services raises
questions of corruption at the high levels of the government and
suggests the federal government isn't concerned about the free
shipment of illegal drugs in and out of Canada.
