RICHMOND EXTENDS MARIJUANA MORATORIUM

The Richmond City Council has decided to put off making any decisions
regarding medical marijuana businesses within the city limits. City
council voted unanimously at its Aug. 1 meeting to extend the current
moratorium on medical marijuana related businesses for an additional
six months. The moratorium was first passed in February.

City Manager Jon Moore said the decision to extend the moratorium was
based on the fact Michigan law is still vague as to how and where
medical marijuana growing and selling businesses should be allowed to
operate. The council has expressed a desire to delay their decision
until more clarity is handed down from the state level.

"We've had quite a few discussions at the planning commission and have
looked at plans from other communities as well," Moore said.

Moore said the city attorney will be at the next planning commission
meeting to answer any questions members may have and also to provide
some information regarding the opinion issued by the state attorney
general.

"I hope the next couple of meetings are productive and I hope to have
something back to council," Moore added.

Moore said he does not anticipate having to request another extension
of the moratorium.
