MARIJUANA STORE BUSTED BY CHILLIWACK RCMP

Be Kind Medical Clinic opened its doors Monday in downtown Chilliwack
to operate as a 'compassion club' for medical marijuana licence holders.

Just two days later, police say drug charges are pending after a
41-year-old Abbotsford man was arrested at the site.

Police also seized between four and five pounds of bud at the
storefront business on Yale Road near Five Corners.

"Ultimately, the business was being operated under the guise of a
medical marijuana compassion club where marijuana, marijuana oils, and
related products were being offered for sale," said RCMP Cpl. Kurt
Bosnell. "The business was not licensed by Health Canada to distribute
or sell marijuana to the public and was found to be an illegal
marijuana trafficking operation that was operating as a storefront
business."

In fact, Health Canada told RCMP officers it does not license
compassion clubs because they are illegal.

A lab and equipment for making hashish and extracting pot oil were
found at the clinic.

"It appeared as though the marijuana oils were being used in
marijuana-related food products which included, chocolate, lollipops,
and edible hashish."

Some had been packaged for re-sale.

The pot lab posed a significant risk of fire, say police. During the
extraction, rubbing alcohol is brought to a boil over a flame creating
dangerous fumes.

As a result of the search warrant, city officials stripped the
occupancy permit from the building and is in the process of revoking
its business licence. The business owner had listed it as
'Healthcare/Medicine' in the paperwork applying for a business licence
with the City Of Chilliwack.

The business is advertising on Craigslist stating that there would be
"healthcare professionals" on-site including medical doctors, and a
pharmacist.

It also offered people help in obtaining a Health Canada Marihuana
Medical Access Regulations (MMAR) card.

A 41-year-old Abbotsford man was arrested and faces charges of
possession and production for the purposes of trafficking, and
trafficking. He has a court date set for Oct. 18.
