GROW-OP(PORTUNITY)

The government wants to find ways to tackle the deficit and the RCMP
is stretched thin due to funding cuts (RCMP Neglecting Its Core
Duties As Cuts Take Toll - June 10). Here's a way to tackle both
problems: Legalize the production and use of marijuana. The
government would increase revenues by licensing grow-ops and taxing
product sales, and the RCMP could devote their resources to things
that are actually dangerous to society. Of course, this would mean
that the Conservatives would have to accept the scientific assessment
of the dangers posed by marijuana use, and learn from the experience
of other jurisdictions in dealing with the drug.
