On May 17, as reported in the North Shore News, an RCMP officer busted a medicinal user based on "a tip relating to marijuana use" (NV RCMP Seize Medical Marijuana, June 3). On the same day, Friday, the Vancouver Sun broke another story of the RCMP arresting three men, growers of federal medical marijuana, for producing more pot than allowed. The RCMP are facing a difficult task. With all this medicinal marijuana floating about, how is the public supposed to go about distinguishing the legal variety from the illegal variety, if the public is going to be the ears and eyes of the police? Is medicinal marijuana coloured like tax-free farm gasoline? Does medicinal marijuana smell different from illegal marijuana? Can the medicinal variety be openly displayed in a restaurant, as if it were a prescription pill being added to coffee, or does it have to be kept out of sight of children and others? Just asking.
