MERELY A POTTED FLOWER

James J. Flynn's letter to the editor (May 8) says, "Like most drugs
marijuana can be therapeutic. But it can be toxic, addictive and even
lethal if its dosage, frequency and duration are not
controlled."

Marijuana has been used by humans for thousands of years, and not one
single death has been attributed to marijuana. In fact, there is no
lethal dose of marijuana.

Certainly one can get dependent on marijuana, but marijuana is not
physically addictive like opiates, cigarettes or alcohol. Read the
scientific studies. Also, all substances have some toxins but, in all
the years folks have been consuming marijuana, physical toxic side
effects have never been documented.

Marijuana is a dried flower, about as close to nature as one can
get.

We used to get all our medicines from plants until the pharmaceutical
companies started marketing "pills" that could fix any ailment. Not to
downplay the importance of modern medicine, but marijuana is helping
thousands of ill people find pain relief without the crippling side
effect of narcotics.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but please state the facts and
not false propaganda that just continues to demonize marijuana.
