PRINCE OF POT MADE NO 'QUIT SMOKING' PROMISE

To the editor:

Re: "Hypocrisy weeds out Prince of Pot," Sept. 15

Sandra Thomas states that Marc Emery has promised to quit smoking pot
if that will help him get home. According to both the Globe and Mail;
and CTV, no such promise was ever made. In fact, the only promise he
makes deals with advocating and condoning civil disobedience and
flouting Canadian and U.S. laws; it had nothing to do with any promise
to quit "smoking pot."

The article from the Globe and Mail (Sept. 10) states, "Before
sentencing, Mr. Emery said he regretted his actions. "I admit that I
was arrogant ... When I get out, I won't ever advocate civil
disobedience again. I will pursue conventional methods to change the
law."
