STACEY SAYS PROPOSED GROW OP BYLAW VIOLATES CIVIL LIBERTIES

A correction: Inspector Paivarinta, according to the Nelson Daily
News, has stated that the City Council and Nelson Police Department
will proceed to pass a bylaw regarding fire and building inspector
entry to houses suspected of grow-ops. I do hope it's a
mis-statement; I want to be clear that no such bylaw has come before
Nelson City Council for decision and nobody should be predicting what
Council will decide. I, for one, would not be supporting any such
by-law, particularly as it contravenes the recent decision of the
British Columbia Court of Appeal, and there are other tools available
for such searches. I am not pro-grow-ops, but I do stand for civil liberties.

Margaret Stacey

Nelson City Councillor
