DEA'S RAID ON COLORADO MARIJUANA GROWER WRONG

Re: "Major metro grower jailed," Feb. 13 news story.

Colorado is moving in the correct direction regarding laws which affect
medical and recreational use of cannabis (marijuana). However, Drug
Enforcement Administration special agent Jeffrey Sweetin's conduct and
claims concerning the Feb. 12 arrest of a cannabis grower are a move in the
wrong direction. Claiming, "It's not medicine," seems to indicate Sweetin
is either ignorant or is lying. In fact, the whole controversial issue of
Americans using cannabis for its medicinal value is due to the federal
government's denial that cannabis has medicinal value and labeling it a
Schedule I substance.

Why is cannabis a Schedule I substance, anyway? Cannabis should be
re-classified as a Schedule II or III substance. Cannabis clearly has
medicinal value and is less dangerous than meth and cocaine, which are
Schedule II substances.
