RESPONSIBLE POT

Regarding "Not the Right Prescription" (Open Forum, Dec. 31): While I
agree that the doctor who prescribed the marijuana to the teenager was
irresponsible, that is not a reason for opposing the legalization
efforts in California and Colorado.

Just like alcohol, marijuana can be used irresponsibly by teenagers
and others. Making it illegal is not going to solve that problem. In
fact legalization, regulation (of both the marijuana and the doctor)
and education would be a lot more productive than continuing to
incarcerate thousands of persons and a lot less costly.
