MOULD ALERT

Re: "Realtors want rules to fix up former grow ops," Oct. 30.

An Alberta realtor sold my wife and me a rental property that had
black mould. We discovered it too late to do anything but lose our
shirts on the deal. Thirty-eight per cent of Canadian homes have some
mould. Standards and guidelines are one thing. Good will and good
practice are quite different. Home inspectors are supposed to certify
a house in proper condition for sale. The one we used didn't have
mould certification at the time. Between the building code and home
inspectors today, if realtors can't figure out when a house is a
ripoff and when it's a good deal, don't buy from them.
