POLICE SEIZE FORMER GROW OP

A house that concealed an indoor marijuana growing operation has been
seized by the Surrey RCMP.

The $615,000 home in the 16000 block of 85B Avenue belonged to Trong
Hieu Vu, who was convicted of production of a controlled substance,
possession of same for the purpose of trafficking, and fraudulently
consuming electricity.

Police raided the house on November 16, 2008 and found what was
described as a sizeable marijuana grow operation in the basement.

A judge ordered the full full forfeiture of the residence last
Friday.

Two Mounties are assigned full-time to the Surrey RCMP's Proceeds of
Crime/Offence-Related Property Team involved in the seizure of 21
houses since 2002.

The average value of a seized grow op house is approximately $500,000,
with the most expensive forfeiture being a ten-acre farm worth over $3
million.

Other assets seized in recent forfeitures include cars, forklifts,
tractors, utility trailers, and cash.
